The Chatham Community Band Saxophone Ensemble (CCB-Sax) is composed of 3-6 saxophone players, drawn from the Chatham Community Band and CCB Jazz Ensemble who meet informally outside the regular rehearsals to rehearse and perform. CCB-Sax performs a variety of arrangements including ragtime, swing, and occasionally even marches and light classical selections either unaccompanied or with a rhythm section.
As in all the CCB ensembles, the CCB-Sax players are not professional musicians. Members work as accountants, teachers, journalists, and many other professions. Some are accomplished musicians who have played all their lives, others have rediscovered their instruments after years of neglect.
FOR PLAYERS: CCB-Sax provides an informal setting to play saxophone chamber music with varying numbers of players, using all the members of the saxophone family from Soprano to Bass. The small ensemble provides unique challenges for players who wish to expand their musical horizons to chamber playing.
FOR AUDIENCES: the saxophone ensemble can perform in venues too small for the larger ensembles of the Chatham Community Band, with the familiar sound of the saxophone section of a swing band like CCB-Jazz.
